LITACO Launches Mini-Book Series, Beneficiaries recount experiences

 LITERARY AUTHORS COOPERATIVE SOCIETY LAUNCHES MINI-BOOK SERIES, BENEFICIARIES RECOUNT EXPERIENCES

The Literary Authors Cooperative Multipurpose Society (LITACO) has unveiled its highly anticipated Mini-Book Series today, marking a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering authors both creatively and financially. 


The project, designed to benefit 100 authors, seeks to revive the reading culture while providing a much-needed platform for writers to fund and promote their literary works.


The launch event witnessed immediate success as Mrs. Awele Ilusanmi, a notable advocate for Nigerian writers, confirmed the receipt of N50,000 in book support from one of the participants of the program. This direct financial boost highlights the society’s commitment to supporting authors in overcoming financial challenges and achieving their publishing goals.


Erumena Akpoghene-Adaiah,  A writer, actress, TV presenter and a trained teacher, she is the Creative Director of MENAAMATA XPRESSIONS, Zack full-fledged Media Outfit now based in Warri. She is also the co-founder of the Otokutu Reading Club, Warri. She is one of the early beneficiaries of the Mini-Book Series, shared her gratitude for the program. “My book, The Dimpsey Chronicles, received promotion support as expected, and I was paid within 24 hours,” she said, expressing appreciation for the society’s efficiency and dedication to its members’ success.


The Mini-Book Series represents a unique opportunity for authors to gain exposure and financial support while contributing to the growth of a robust reading culture in Nigeria. This innovative initiative demonstrates the Literary Authors Cooperative Society’s commitment to advancing the literary landscape through collaboration and strategic empowerment.


For those unfamiliar with Mrs. Awele Ilusanmi’s work, she has been a cornerstone in promoting Nigerian writers by assisting them in publishing, promoting, and distributing their books. Her relentless dedication has opened doors for countless authors to realize their literary dreams.


On May 26, 2024, Mrs. Ilusanmi’s initiative hosted Roberta Vigilance, a globally renowned expert in book sponsorship and author of How to Secure Sponsors Successfully. Vigilance delivered a masterclass on “Effective Strategies to Get Sponsorship for Your Book,” offering actionable insights into identifying sponsors, crafting compelling proposals, and building lasting relationships.


Building on these efforts, LITACO hosted Brian Jud, Executive Director of the Association of Publishers for Special Sales (APSS) and CEO of Book Marketing Works, on June 27, 2024. Jud’s lecture, How to Sell Books in Bulk to International Organizations, provided authors with practical strategies to expand their reach and increase bulk sales. The session equipped participants with tools to approach international markets confidently, further enhancing the financial viability of their works.


The Mini-Book Series is more than a publishing project—it is a movement to empower writers, promote literacy, and foster a thriving literary ecosystem. By providing financial support, strategic guidance, and a platform for exposure, LITACO is paving the way for a new era of literary excellence in Nigeria.

Writers Celebrate ANA President, Usman Oladipo Akanbi, on His 56th Birthday and Appointment as NCC Ambassador

 

WRITERS CELEBRATE ANA PRESIDENT, USMAN OLADIPO AKANBI, ON HIS 56TH BIRTHDAY AND APPOINTMENT AS NCC AMBASSADOR


 

Writers under the aegis of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) have extended their heartfelt congratulations to the President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Dr. Sheu-Usman Oladipo Akanbi, on his 56th birthday.

The Society also celebrated his recent appointment as an Ambassador of the Nigerian Copyrights Commission (NCC), acknowledging his contributions to the literary and academic spheres.

This commendation was contained in a press statement issued by the President of SYNW, Wole Adedoyin, in Ibadan on Tuesday. The statement described Dr. Akanbi as a leader who has consistently demonstrated a commitment to advancing the cause of Nigerian writers and intellectual property rights.

Dr. Akanbi, a prolific writer and academic, is also the founder of the Imodoye Writers Enclave, a hub dedicated to nurturing young literary talents in Nigeria. His leadership at ANA has been marked by initiatives aimed at promoting literary excellence, preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage, and fostering a sense of community among writers.

In addition to his literary pursuits, Dr. Akanbi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management at the University of Ilorin. With nine years of university teaching, research, and administrative experience, he has made significant contributions to the field of Agricultural Production Economics, Development Economics, and Agribusiness.

His academic credentials are impressive, with over thirty-five scholarly publications in respected journals, conference proceedings, and books. He has successfully supervised more than fifty undergraduate students and six master’s students and is currently supervising three Ph.D. candidates. Dr. Akanbi’s academic achievements also include being a beneficiary of the Nigerian Research Fund grant.

The Society of Young Nigerian Writers commended Dr. Akanbi for using his dual roles as an academic and a writer to inspire young Nigerians. His establishment of platforms like the Imodoye Writers Enclave demonstrates his dedication to the mentorship and development of emerging writers.

SYNW also called on writers and creatives to emulate Dr. Akanbi’s commitment to excellence and his passion for the arts. The Society reaffirmed its support for his endeavors and pledged to collaborate on projects that will further the interests of Nigerian writers.

SYNW finally wished him continued success, good health, and many more years of impactful service.
