The Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA) has announced its 2024 Annual Conference and General Meeting, scheduled to take place from Thursday, November 28th to Friday, November 29th, 2024.

The event will be held at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, and promises to be an insightful gathering of key stakeholders in the publishing industry.

This year’s conference will explore the theme "Publishing in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Exploring the Future of Content Creation, Delivery, and Copyright."

Dr. John Asein, Director General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, will deliver the keynote address on the theme.

Following the keynote, a panel discussion will delve deeper into the issues raised, featuring the following panelists:

Mr. David Oluwagbami , Senior Research Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Dr. Mrs. Chika Yinka-Banjo , Department of Computer Science, University of Lagos (UNILAG) and Engr. Ifeanyi Avajah , immediate past Chairman, Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Lagos State

As the digital landscape rapidly evolves, it is crucial to examine the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the publishing sector, with a focus on how AI is shaping content creation, delivery, and the protection of intellectual property rights.

The event will feature prominent industry leaders, experts, and professionals, with Chief Uchenna Cyril Anioke, Ph.D., the President/Chairman-in-Council of the Nigerian Publishers Association, serving as the Chief Host. The conference will also be graced by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, who will attend as the Special Guest of Honour, stressing the importance of the publishing industry in the socio-economic development of both the state and the nation.

The conference will benefit from the leadership of Alhaji Razak Jaiyeola, FCA, who will serve as the Chairman. Alhaji Jaiyeola is a distinguished professional, the Chief Consultant of A.J. Silicon, and a former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). His vast experience will undoubtedly enrich the discussions throughout the event.

The two-day conference will bring together professionals, thought leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders from the publishing and media sectors to engage in discussions that will shape the future of publishing. Sessions will cover key topics, including how AI technologies are transforming content creation, the challenges of copyright protection in the digital age, and strategies for publishers to adapt to the evolving landscape.

The Nigerian publishing industry has witnessed significant changes in recent years, with technology playing a central role in both creating new opportunities and presenting new challenges. As AI tools and innovations continue to evolve, the NPA aims to equip its members and participants with the knowledge and strategies to leverage these technologies effectively.

In addition to the thought-provoking sessions, the event will feature networking opportunities, allowing publishers, authors, content creators, and industry professionals to connect, collaborate, and explore new avenues for growth in the publishing sector.

The NPA cordially invites all interested stakeholders—including publishers, authors, journalists, and content creators—to attend this important event. The conference will provide an invaluable platform to discuss the future of publishing, exchange ideas, and address the key challenges facing the industry today.
